short one, cos its Too Late.

work today was crazy-like. we went and had a team meeting at 1pm, and instead of the usual heads-up we do where we say "im working on these 5,000,000 things" we said what we were proud of this year. i said i was proud of not sucking too badly, when id thrown myself in the dep end with this job, and thanked everyone for holding my hand.

then we had a lovely afternoon tea where Yay!Boss brought out sossidge rolls and assgrass rolls and frooit and mince trollops, and we did about 5 5-minute quizzes.

then we went to the black harp and had a beer. then we went to trax (oh dear god, the railway station bar!!) and had further drinks. then, as my mission was to ensure lovely workmate lady got home in one piece, i continued to the old waterloo (whatever it is now) and had another drink. then i walked her back to her hotel, and we yarned, and then i came home. pretty much sober, but a little overtired and ranty. and now im making soops, and ima eat them in bed with my kitteh.

halfway across my teeny lawn, i stopped, and went back to the laundry/shed. WE HAVE A NEW WASHING MACHINE!!!! HURRAH!!!!! its full of clothes. GRRRR to neighbours who share the hoose and machine. i hope your babies look like monkeys.

mmm. soops.

Montréal eh (see what I did there?). Now, I've pretty much lost every ounce of French that I possess. I can ask if you speak French, I can introduce myself and say my age, stumble through whether I'm doing good or bad. I can even count a little bit. Beyond that? Yeah, I was slightly nervous about getting there (had only driven through once before when I was very young). It's officially bilingual so I knew I'd do fine but what can I say, the French (and the Québécois are no exception) have a certain reputation.

Thank fuck I booked my hostel beforehand. )

ALL OF ME HURTS!!! i must be doing something wrong - surely Motown shouldn't leave me feeling like a wet rag?

too empty to write up a proper update about the gig, which was wonderful. instead ima focus on the other stuff i have to think about.

i had kebab for breakfast, which was good because i have no food in my house. said house is also a pigsty. plus, all the clothes i slung in the washing machine yesterday before it broke are still sopping wet and theres really no way to get them rinsed and dried until the machine is fixed. landlady projects tomorrow. looks like ill be wearing my department shirt...

so noe the gig is over and im going to have 2 weeks off over christmas and new years, im going to try and pull my good habits back together. for a while there it was working really well and theres no reason why it shouldnt again. i need to shop, clean, and listen to an assload of music. thats my plan. and shopping needs to happen soon - i have no milk, no bread, no meat, no tea or coffee... i have some slightly limp veges and a few condiments.... lucky that im eating at the cathouse tonight! and possibly with lyuba and james tomorrow! hurrah!

two things about the gig.

firstly, i was really impressed with our support - jared and the tasteful nudes. theyve only had 2 practices, but obviously just gel really well together. and it was Awesome to see duncan playing bass again. =)

secondly - the new and beautiful Queen of Microphones was amazing.

she feels good to hold, and i vastly prefer an upright stand to a boom because you can fling them around a bit. admittedly, i do like the freedom of having a standard mic that i can take off the stand and travel with, but once ive nailed the ins and outs of static mic use, i wont miss that mobility at all.

the sound is warm, and the mic picks up a lot of consonants and breathe sound, which means i have to drastically up my technique. this is one of the reasons why i hurt so much today - i was actually using my whole body to sing with, whether i was lurching about or standing still.... my abs are agony, and my back and shoulders are, too. i had to play my kazoo off-centre because the airflow was too noisy.

there was a point where i accidentally switched off the mic - im not used to such a prominent on/off switch, and that was pretty funny. luckily i realised fast! it wasnt the sound guy! it was me! =)

mostly it was just an absolute joy to use a mic thats so gorgeous and so good. so again (and im not going to stop saying this) thank you so so so much to everyone who got together to give her to me. im the luckiest, most blessed sophie EVER. all my love. xxx

had practice. the queen of mics is very sensitive! now have to do Stuff. shower, shit, shave, etc. i may need a nap but ive only got 2 hours til soundcheck. i dont know what to wear, and most of my clothes are sodden thanks to the washing machine fritzing out - it wont empty the water from the wash and continue on to the rinses.

bit sucky.

but i et a sammidge and feel better now.

right. ive dyed my hair, partially done washing until the machine broke (OH SHIT!!) and watched an ep of NCIS. i slept with my microphone last night and woke up this morning with it still cradled in my arms. off to a quick practice, and then i shall try and make myself pretty for you all.

im nervous, and still need a doorbitch, but am pretty happy with everything. =)

i cant really put this into proper words. i went to fidels this evening, and there was a box for me. i had missed the twitter and text messages telling me to come and eat amazing french cheez, so i was even more confused than i would have been.

it wasnt cheez. it was a Shure 55SH. the queen of microphones. supercardioid dynamic mic of amazingness, but designed as a replica of a 40s style mic. no shit. and i made weird yelping noises and cried all over myself and was speechless and it was just one of the most amazing things thats ever happened in my life.

i have a group of friends who banded together to get me this astonishing piece of machinery because they love me and they want me to be happy. i feel humbled and blessed and thankful and full of joy and love and bewilderment. i dont know what else to say but thank you so so so much and i love you with all of my heart and soul. thank you.

Canada trip

I'm well overdue for writing this up but I suppose it's about time I got around to saying something about my trip to Canuckistan. If anyone is on dial-up...sorry haha. This may be a tad picture heavy (and that's after chopping out over 1,000 other images - what can I say, the new digital camera was crying out to be used).

Also, much as I have wanted to keep this locked from now on, apparently quite a few people from back in Canada looking for our family have found my LJ so I'll leave this one open so you lot can see as well. Seems fitting considering the topic (oh god, people from my past read my current drunken endeavours, that's a bit worrying haha).

So yes. )

i have Splish Splash by bobby darin stuck in my head. its a song ive sung to bebe maksim when bathing him, and he kicks his wee feeties in time. i was BORN to be his auntie.

today after work, which seemed interminable despite a nice long banter with Captain Inappropriate, i went and caught up with kate. i love kate. shes Epic.

then i went to band practice at petes house (as once again i failed at practice space. hey assholes, update your websites. if you no longer have a PA, remove the bit that says "we have a PA") band kicked ass. we ran both sets and it Did Not Suck. then carla gave me a lift home.

tomorrow i have After Work Missions. these include obtaining hair dye and another kazoo, and then the meet 'n' greet with people for New Exciting Musical Project. i may end up doing musicky stuff 4 days out of 7. this makes me terribly terribly happy.

in other news, there is no icky drama in my life. its quite nice.
