short one, cos its Too Late.
work today was crazy-like. we went and had a team meeting at 1pm, and instead of the usual heads-up we do where we say "im working on these 5,000,000 things" we said what we were proud of this year. i said i was proud of not sucking too badly, when id thrown myself in the dep end with this job, and thanked everyone for holding my hand.
then we had a lovely afternoon tea where Yay!Boss brought out sossidge rolls and assgrass rolls and frooit and mince trollops, and we did about 5 5-minute quizzes.
then we went to the black harp and had a beer. then we went to trax (oh dear god, the railway station bar!!) and had further drinks. then, as my mission was to ensure lovely workmate lady got home in one piece, i continued to the old waterloo (whatever it is now) and had another drink. then i walked her back to her hotel, and we yarned, and then i came home. pretty much sober, but a little overtired and ranty. and now im making soops, and ima eat them in bed with my kitteh.
halfway across my teeny lawn, i stopped, and went back to the laundry/shed. WE HAVE A NEW WASHING MACHINE!!!! HURRAH!!!!! its full of clothes. GRRRR to neighbours who share the hoose and machine. i hope your babies look like monkeys.
mmm. soops.

ALL OF ME HURTS!!! i must be doing something wrong - surely Motown shouldn't leave me feeling like a wet rag?
too empty to write up a proper update about the gig, which was wonderful. instead ima focus on the other stuff i have to think about.
i had kebab for breakfast, which was good because i have no food in my house. said house is also a pigsty. plus, all the clothes i slung in the washing machine yesterday before it broke are still sopping wet and theres really no way to get them rinsed and dried until the machine is fixed. landlady projects tomorrow. looks like ill be wearing my department shirt...
so noe the gig is over and im going to have 2 weeks off over christmas and new years, im going to try and pull my good habits back together. for a while there it was working really well and theres no reason why it shouldnt again. i need to shop, clean, and listen to an assload of music. thats my plan. and shopping needs to happen soon - i have no milk, no bread, no meat, no tea or coffee... i have some slightly limp veges and a few condiments.... lucky that im eating at the cathouse tonight! and possibly with lyuba and james tomorrow! hurrah!
two things about the gig.
firstly, i was really impressed with our support - jared and the tasteful nudes. theyve only had 2 practices, but obviously just gel really well together. and it was Awesome to see duncan playing bass again. =)
secondly - the new and beautiful Queen of Microphones was amazing.
she feels good to hold, and i vastly prefer an upright stand to a boom because you can fling them around a bit. admittedly, i do like the freedom of having a standard mic that i can take off the stand and travel with, but once ive nailed the ins and outs of static mic use, i wont miss that mobility at all.
the sound is warm, and the mic picks up a lot of consonants and breathe sound, which means i have to drastically up my technique. this is one of the reasons why i hurt so much today - i was actually using my whole body to sing with, whether i was lurching about or standing still.... my abs are agony, and my back and shoulders are, too. i had to play my kazoo off-centre because the airflow was too noisy.
there was a point where i accidentally switched off the mic - im not used to such a prominent on/off switch, and that was pretty funny. luckily i realised fast! it wasnt the sound guy! it was me! =)
mostly it was just an absolute joy to use a mic thats so gorgeous and so good. so again (and im not going to stop saying this) thank you so so so much to everyone who got together to give her to me. im the luckiest, most blessed sophie EVER. all my love. xxx
